Kindergarten Round-Up

Entrance into kindergarten is a very important event in the life of a child. To help parents prepare for the "Big Day", we will be having Kindergarten Round-Up at our elementary buildings on the following dates:

Bowlesburg Elementary Thursday, April 23 1:00 PM
Hillcrest Elementary Friday, April 10 1:00 PM
Ridgewood Elementary Thursday, April 23 6:00 PM
Wells Elementary Thursday, April 16 6:00 PM

Kindergarten age children are not required but are encouraged to attend. All parents/guardians of children who will enter Kindergarten in the fall are encouraged to be present. Personnel at all district attendance centers will be available to answer questions of parents/guardians.

To enter Kindergarten in September the child must be 5 years old on or prior to September 1. State law mandates that a child must be enrolled in school by age 7.

The education of your child is a cooperative effort. We encourage you to become acquainted with East Moline District 37 Schools.

In the News

Leroy McLaughlin works at Bowlesburg Elementary and the Dispatch did a story on the difference he makes in the lives of children.  We have so many across our district that truly make a difference in the lives of children and Leroy is another great example of someone that makes connections with our students.

Dental Exams

The State of Illinois requires all students in kindergarten, second, and sixth grade have a dental examination. The completed proof of examination OR waiver  must be turned into the school nurse by May 15 of the current school year. A completed exam form is acceptable if the exam was completed within 18 months prior to the May 15 deadline. If a student fails to present proof of the exam, the school may withhold the report card until:
• Student presents proof of the dental exam OR
• Student presents proof that the dental exam will take place within 60 days after May 15 OR
• A Waiver form is completed and turned in. The Waiver form is included with this letter.

Please contact your school nurse if you need assistance in locating a dentist, or please turn in the
completed waiver as soon as possible.

Strategic Planning

Dear East Moline Families:

Recently our Board of Education authorized a committee of community-minded individuals to undertake the process of creating a long-range strategic plan. The committee of district personnel and community leaders started this process back in April and finished their work in early September. We presented a three-year comprehensive plan to our Board of Education on September 26th and they voted unanimously to adopt the plan and authorize the administration to begin executing the plan.

This will be a living, breathing plan that we will continue toadapt in future years. We think it is extremely important that all of our families have access to what we are working toward and that is why we are putting the entire plan on our website. You can download a copy of the plan from the front page of our website.  Copies have also been placed in each of our school offices and the Administration Center for any family or community member requesting a copy. Click here to download that plan.

Yours for kids,

Kristin Humphries
