Equitable School Funding in the News

Our Superintendent sat down for an interview on The Cities with Jim Mertens to discuss the state budget impasse and inequitable school funding in Illinois. We need our elected officials to stand up for all children in Illinois by passing a budget, enacting school funding reform, and paying school districts what they are owed. Rotary Club to Put iPads in the Kids Hands

Story and photo by Dispatch Argus reporter Sarah Hayden. Members of the East Moline-Silvis Rotary Club are out to tackle illiteracy. They plan to raise $50,000 to buy iPads for East Moline and Silvis third-grade students, hoping the devices inspire young readers and help teach English to non-native speakers.

S.T.E.A.M. Technology Showcase

Science + Technology + Engineering + Art + Math = S.T.E.A.M. At Glenview Middle School, Thursday May 18th 5 pm—7 pm. Join us as we celebrate a new era of technology in East Moline Schools. Presentations will include some of today’s hottest new tech. Including 3D Printing, Robotics, Virtual Reality, Drones, and more. See students present from these programs: EMSD Explorers Club, Project Lead the Way, IMSA Fusion, Lego Simple Machines, Jr. First Lego League.

Dental Exam Forms and Waivers

The state of Illinois requires all students in Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades to have a dental exam, with the proof of exam by a dentist turned into the school prior to May 15. If unable to complete the dental exam by a dentist, then the school must receive a dental exam Waiver prior to May 15, completed by the parent / guardian.

2017-2018 School Calendar

The EMSD37 board of education approved the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. The first day of school for students is on Wednesday, August 16. All EMSD schools will be climate controlled and ready for the new year.

Lorado Taft Field Trip

On Wednesday, October 26, 130 5th grade students attended an outdoor educational program at Lorado Taft in Oregon, IL. Laredo- Taft’s classes focus on developing an appreciation, understanding, and awareness of the natural community by studying and interacting with the natural world .
