Bowlesburg Mission Statement

“The Bowlesburg School Community will set high academic expectations for all students and will encourage them to become life long learners by providing a warm, caring environment in which each child can strive to meet his/her highest potential.”

Our School
Bowlesburg is a school of approximately 40 staff members and 350 students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Our “core” curriculum includes the areas of reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. We also offer art, music, physical education, health, and library/computer instruction. Pupils with special needs receive instruction in programs such as special education, gifted (TEC), Title I Reading, and the Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) for students who are bilingual. Bowlesburg is home to the district bilingual classrooms for second, third, and fourth grade students.

At school the students have opportunities to be involved in and exposed to a variety of activities. All grades participate in Junior Achievement. We have a Conflict Mediation program where third and fourth grade students are trained as peer mediators to help others resolve conflict. Two times a year we host Quad City Visiting Artists, and we have periodic visits from Quad City Symphony groups. All grades schedule instructional field trips, and sometimes we bring the “field trip” to the school. We have worked with the Mississippi Valley Girl Scout organization to either visit their camp or bring horses to our school so that students have had an opportunity to ride horses. Examples of other experiences that we have offered to our students include a traveling pioneer village, a dinosaur exhibit, and Star Lab.

We encourage people to volunteer to help in classrooms at Bowlesburg. We have been privileged to have parents, grandparents, friends, and students from United Township High School, Black Hawk College, and Western Illinois University helping our teachers and students. Many of our classes also act as “Reading Buddies” for other classrooms.

Several years back, an all-school behavior management plan was implemented. An incentive program, the B.O.B. (Best of Bowlesburg), was used with the behavior management plan to reward students for positive behavior. Classes earn B.O.B.’s each month to qualify for monthly reward days. Daily assignment journals are used to keep track of behavior issues, list homework assignments, and improve communication with parents.

If you have any questions about Bowlesburg, please send us an e-mail. We would be glad to respond to your questions or provide you with additional information.
