Acceptable Use Policy

Internet Access
Internet access is available in most District 37 classrooms and libraries. We believe that the Internet offers vast, diverse and unique resource to students. Our goal in providing this service to students is to promote educational excellence in schools by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication.

Privileges
The use of the Districts Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of those privileges.

Acceptable Use
Access to the Districts Internet must be for the purpose of education or research and be consistent with the educational objectives of District 37.

Unacceptable Use
Some examples of abuses are:

  • using the network for any illegal activity, including violation of copyright or other contracts.

  • unauthorized downloading of software.

  • using the network for private financial or commercial gain.

  • wastefully using resources, such as file space.

  • gaining unauthorized access to resources or entities.

  • invading the privacy of individuals.

  • using another users account or password.

  • posting material authored by another without his/her consent or posting anonymous messages.

  • accessing, submitting, posting, publishing, or displaying any defamatory, inaccurate, abusive obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, harassing, or illegal material.

While the district uses a filter to block access to inappropriate web sites, it is not considered to be a "fool proof" system.

    Vandalism
Vandalism may result in cancellation of privileges and other disciplinary action. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user, the Internet, or any other network.

    • Be polite

    • Do not swear or use vulgar language.
