Glenview Student Activities

 

 

Big Brother/Big Sister
Who: All Glenview students can participate.
Purpose: This program pairs older students as mentors with younger students in an effort to improve academic skills and achievement as well as provide a listening ear to younger students.

Boys Basketball
Who: Any seventh or eighth grade boy who has completed a current physical and whose parents have signed a permission slip, may try out.
Purpose: To promote teamwork, discipline, physical fitness and to foster positive self-esteem. School Pride and spirit will be promoted through competition with other schools in our conference. Boy’s basketball begins in November.

Cheerleading
Who: All seventh and eighth grade boys and girls may try out.
Purpose: Students will learn and practice cheers, as well as, cheer at either boys or girls basketball games.

Cross Country
Who: Any sixth, seventh or eighth grade student who has a current physical and whose parents have signed a permission slip, may try out.
Purpose: To provide Glenview students the opportunity to participate in cross-country at the interscholastic level. This season is in the fall.

Drama Club
Who: Any Glenview student
Purpose: Students will explore all aspects of play production and perform at different times during the year.

Girls Basketball
Who: Any seventh or eighth grade girl who has a current physical and whose parents have signed a permission slip, may try out.
Purpose: To promote teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness and to inspire a positive sense of self esteem. Glenview teams will compete with other schools in our conference. Girl’s basketball begins in January.

Intramurals
Who: Fifth and sixth grade boys and girls.
Purpose: To provide students the opportunity to participate in activities such as basketball, softball, flag football and other appropriate games.

Newspaper
Who: Any sixth, seventh or eighth grade student interested in writing about some school event.
Purpose: The reporters write, edit, and type all the stories for the school newspaper, The Gator Gazette.

S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking Right Stand)
Who: All Glenview students can participate.
Purpose: An after school program designed to help students deal with peer pressure and develop positive self-concepts. S.T.A.R.S. clubs meet once a month.

Student Council
Who: Students are elected from the fifth through eighth grades. Officers are eighth graders elected by eighth grade students.
Purpose: Student Council develops leadership skills, promotes school spirit and pride, and creates publicity about student events and ideas. High standards are set to help boost student body morals. Fundraiser is done to provide student events.

Swim team
Who: Any sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
Purpose: To provide Glenview students the opportunity to participate in swimming at the interscholastic level. The team is transported to U.T.H.S. pool. Swimming begins in February.

Track
Who: All scholastically eligible seventh and eighth grade students.
Purpose: To provide students the opportunity to participate in track and field at the interscholastic level.

Volleyball
Who: Open for tryouts to any seventh or eighth grade girls.
Purpose: Compete in volleyball at the interscholastic level. There is a seventh grade team and an eighth grade team.

Wresterettes
Who: Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
Purpose: Students will assist coaches with scoring at wrestling meets and keep team records.

Wrestling
Who: Seventh and eighth graders.
Purpose: To promote school spirit and provide students the opportunity to be part of the great tradition of East Moline wrestling.

Yearbook
Who: All Glenview students may participate.
Purpose: Prepare yearbook for publication.
