SEPTEMBER WAS NUTRITION MONTH FOR 7TH BLUE
Mrs. Brandt's 7th grade blue team family and consumer science classes spent the month of September studying and learning about nutrition. The focus for the month was on the nutrients found in the food eaten by the student on a daily basis and it’s connection to teenage obesity and diabetes.

Mrs. Haskins, 6th grade gold teacher, talked to the students about her experiences of having a heart attack and how to prevent high levels of cholesterol in the blood at an early age. Mrs. Haskins explained to the students what it felt like to have a heart attack and how this event changed not only her life, but the life of her family.

Mrs. Jacobs, Glenview Middle School nurse, shared with the students how obesity and diabetes are connected to the teenage diet. Students were given information as to the cause of diabetes, the treatment, and health risks that are related to diabetes and obesity.

Mrs. Jacobs had the students track their physical activity for one week to determine if they were couch potatoes or if they were actively involved on a daily basis of getting exercise outside of school.

October will be cooking month. Students will be preparing low-fat and low-cost snack food as well as main dish ideas to share with their families at home

BON APETITE!!!!!!
