East Moline School District families and community,
As a school district, we have been closely monitoring the news regarding the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In order to maintain the safety of our community, the Governor of Illinois has ordered all schools closed starting Tuesday, March 17 through Tuesday, April 7th. As of now, we will return to school on Wednesday, April 8th. The Governor has cautioned school districts that the timeline may be extended depending on the public health situation based on information from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control.
This is uncharted territory for our school district. We are dedicated to the health and safety of every child and employee. The timing of spring break has come at a good time for our school district. During the upcoming week, we will take advantage and give all of our buildings a deeper cleaning.
Even though there have not been any reported cases in the Quad Cities, it is important to remember these guidelines to reinforce healthy habits:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper arm or elbow.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Do not share beverages.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
We will continue to communicate as this situation changes. Please watch for future announcements next week. Our students and employees are at the center of all decisions during this difficult time.
Yours for kids,
Dr. Kristin Humphries, Superintendent of Schools
