Superintendent's Message to Families

East Moline School District families and community,

Our school district delivered over 11,000 meals to children this week. That could never happen without the wonderful volunteers who stepped forward because they believe in our students and families. The response has been nothing short of remarkable, and fills me with pride to know such caring people are watching out for the children of our community.

Our food service employees were busy yesterday, preparing breakfast and lunch that will go out to schools and distribution sites on Monday morning. We could never make this happen without their leadership. We also have the Week 2 Learning Kits packed and ready to be delivered to our families. Our preschool employees were in this week getting their education kits ready, and we had eight volunteers pack the materials for grades K-8 yesterday morning. We will also have our website updated by Monday morning with the latest materials and links for all grades. The East Moline School District is lucky to have such committed individuals that are here to support our students.

Yesterday afternoon, Governor Pritzker held his daily press conference. However, he did not make an announcement about public education. Even though we are currently out of school until April 8, the date is arbitrary at this point. They really don’t know when we can come back. Until then, we will work to keep our students, families, employees and community informed on what the East Moline School District is doing regarding our three priorities (meals, education kits, and communication).

Schools are just buildings without our students and employees. I remain hopeful we will see each other again soon, in school, teaching and learning. We are in uncharted times that require us to go beyond ordinary measures. Because of extraordinary people, we are making it happen - together.

Yours for kids,

Dr. Kristin Humphries, Superintendent of Schools
