Students & Families may come for a night of self-care with the QCCAN Therapy Dogs, check out a couple of club favorite activities, and help us create our first Foster’s Voice change-maker banner, while our leaders tell you about the Foster’s Voice Club! -Today’s Moment in Black History: Samirah Horton - Also known as DJ Annie Red, Samirah is an award winning kid rapper and anti-bullying activist. After being picked on by her peers from a young age, she decided to embrace her love of music to create her own anti-bullying anthem: “No You Won’t Bully Me.” This song soon became a book called “The Bully Stop,” and since its creation, Samirah has visited schools all across the country to talk to kids about bullying, expressing oneself through music, and encouraging kids to embrace what makes them different. In addition to her activism for a kinder world, Samirah is a kid resident DJ for the Brooklyn Nets!

Next up, med school! In 2022, she became the youngest Black person to ever be accepted into medical school (University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine). With a passion to help other young girls enter STEM careers as well, she founded The Brown STEM Girl, which educates, motivates, and empowers girls of color to enter these fields. 2-26-24 Announcements -8th grade girls attending the St. Ambrose University event today are reminded to meet in the library immediately following period 1. Leave cell phones and earpods/earbuds in lockers. Speak with Mrs. Campbell or Mrs. Mojica if you have any questions. -Art club meets today. Meet Miss. Boyette in the 5th grade hallway after school. -Congratulations to Abobakr Fakhri, Dakarion King and Tyvian Collins for qualifying for wrestling sectionals over the weekend. We had 3 wrestlers miss it by a win and took 4th. They were Travis Kinkead, Elijah Hare, and Kameron Buehl. Congratulations to all of our wrestlers who competed! -Today’s Moment in Black History: Taylor Cassidy - With more than 2.3 million followers on TikTok, Taylor aims to teach her/their audience “Black History like you’ve never learned before.” Via her/their series “Fast Black History” and “Black Girl Magic Minute,” Taylor creates a community that links Black culture with joy and fun.  A strong advocate of inclusion and representation, Taylor makes Black history accessible on her channels, and once you watch one of her/their videos, trust us, you won’t want to stop! 2-23-24 Announcements -Pure Sports Club is canceled for today. -Today’s Moment in Black History: You may recall hearing Stacey Abrams name during the last presidential election. Ms. Abrams, a lawyer, politician, and voting rights activist worked tirelessly to get new voters and encourage everyone to vote. Her efforts resulted in a record-breaking turn out in her state. As a nominated Nobel Peace Prize recipient, her efforts were noticed and celebrated by many

2-22-24 Announcements -Builder’s Club meets today.  -French club meets today.  -Chef club GROUP 3A will meet today in room 277. -The swim team had a meet against Rock Island this week. Event winners were: Sophia Maess and Connor Adair. -Today’s Moment in Black History: Maya Angelou is a groundbreaking poet and author. One of her most famous poems, Phenomenal Woman reminds girls and women of all ages that you don't have to fit into society's norms, and it's okay to stand out and be yourself. Don't let anyone "box" you in.  Ms. Maya says, “it’s the fire in the eyes” and “the sun of the smile” that are two traits to being a phenomenal woman.

2-21-24 Announcements -Attention 5th and 6th grade students: if you are attending tonight’s dance, please go to the North Gym right after school.  -The admission for tonight’s dance is $3 for all grades. There will also be snacks for sale. -The 8th grade  Lady Gators put together an energized 4th quarter comeback, but needed another minute or 2 on the clock, to claim the win. The Ladys' are traveling to Washington on Thursday, Go Gators! -Latinx Workshop will hold an after school meeting today in the library. Mr. Lewis created his legacy as a fierce civil rights activist and  represented the State of Georgia in the House of Representatives for many years until his death in 2020. Mr. Lewis is known for encouraging people to get in "good trouble, necessary trouble," meaning go the extra mile to make people uncomfortable by standing up for equality for everyone.

-Mariachi is canceled today. -Today's Builder's Club meeting has been rescheduled for next Thursday the 22nd.

-There is no girls basketball game on Thursday 2/15, the Lady Gators will play their next home game on February 20th. -Our wrestlers will compete next weekend at regionals.
