-Today’s moment in Black History, we honor the life of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a giant of the Civil Rights Movement who passed away earlier this month at the age of 84.
Jesse Jackson began his journey as a young activist alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., eventually becoming one of the most influential voices for equality in American history. He famously founded the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, an organization dedicated to social justice, voting rights, and ensuring that everyone—regardless of their race or background—has a seat at the table.
He is perhaps best known for his powerful 'I Am Somebody' chant, which he used to inspire millions of young people to believe in their own worth. He once said: 'I may be poor, but I am somebody. I may be young, but I am somebody. I am God’s child. I must be respected, protected, never rejected.' Rev. Jackson’s legacy reminds us that hope is a living thing and that our voices have the power to change the world. On this last school day of Black History Month, let’s remember his call to 'Keep Hope Alive.'"

-Today’s moment in Black History is all about Glenview’s own, Mr. Kodjo Dogbe. Mr. Dogbe is from Togo (West Africa). He has a master’s degree in International Affairs & History from the University of Lome (Togo) and also earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Georgia Gwinnett College (USA), and in a few months will have another master’s in education from Western Illinois University.
Mr. Dogbe leads by example by demonstrating empathy, patience, and kindness, particularly during challenging situations. His Black History Hero is Martin Luther King Jr. for his commitment to equal education, courage, and vision.
When he thinks about the future of our students, the most powerful advice he has to offer is: Do not let your past hunt your future. Everyone can have a bright future if you believe in yourself.

Her Black History Hero is Jackie Hill Perry. Her best future advice to students is that where you come from does not decide where you can go. With hard work, dedication, and focus, you can create a life full of purpose and happiness. Along the way, challenges will happen, but learning how to bounce back and keep going is one of the most important skills you can build.
